Why is the Ebox referral code OR181 not working?
Ebox is unusual: most ISPs have a single promo code field. Ebox has two separate code entry points at checkout, and they serve completely different purposes. Putting a referral code in the wrong one will produce either an "invalid code" error or silence — the system simply ignores it.
Below are the five causes, in order from most to least common. Fix #1 resolves over 90% of cases.
Fix 1 — Wrong field (the cause in most cases)
The PROMO CODE field sits at the very top of the order form. It only accepts Ebox's own campaign codes. Entering OR181 there will return an error or apply nothing.
Follow these steps exactly:
- Scroll past the PROMO CODE box — ignore it completely.
- Find the Personal Information section.
- In “How have you heard about Ebox?”, select Friend or family.
- A second field appears: “the client code of the friend who referred you.”
- Paste OR181 there and proceed.
Once entered correctly, the checkout will show a confirmation that the code is valid. The $25 appears on your bill — not as an instant price drop, but as a credit.
Fix 2 — You already have an Ebox account
Referral code OR181 is for new customers only — people who have never had an Ebox residential internet account. If you previously had Ebox at any address, the code will not apply. This restriction is enforced at the account level, not the address level.
If someone in your household has had Ebox before, a new account at the same address may still qualify — but Ebox verifies this case-by-case. Contact Ebox support before ordering to confirm eligibility.
Fix 3 — Typo in the code
Manual typing introduces errors — especially confusing the letter O with the digit 0, or misreading the sequence. Always copy OR181 directly from a trusted source and paste it into the referral field.
Fix 4 — Code entered after order was confirmed
OR181 must be entered before you confirm your order. Once the Ebox account is created and the order confirmation email is sent, the referral code cannot be applied through the website form. If this has already happened, contact Ebox customer service immediately — within 24 to 48 hours of signing up — and ask them to manually apply code OR181. Ebox has accommodated this in some cases, but there is no guarantee.
Ebox support can be reached by email or live chat at ebox.ca.
Fix 5 — Business or commercial account
The OR181 referral code applies to residential internet plans only. If you are signing up for an Ebox business plan, the referral field may not appear or the code may be rejected. For business plan inquiries, contact Ebox directly to ask whether a referral code can be applied.

After entering OR181 in the referral field during checkout, the form will display a green confirmation message confirming the code was recognized. Look for text like "the code you entered is valid" — this appears inline below the referral field, not in the order summary at the top.
If you don't see the confirmation and want to be sure, scroll back to the Personal Information section to check whether the field is still populated. If the form was refreshed or navigated away from, re-enter the code before confirming.
After your account is created, the $25 credit does not appear as a discount on your first invoice. It appears as a credit on your second invoice — this is how Ebox applies referral credits. If your second bill does not show the $25, see our Ebox referral credit not received guide.
